Meet The Revolutionaries
Allison Clark and Kara Trowbridge are two of our Reading Revolutionaries who work at Mansfeld Middle School in Tucson, AZ. Between the two of them they offer SSR 2.0 to every 8th grader at Mansfeld. That is a whole lot of reading journeys! By the way, in their hands are just 2 of the 20 boxes full of books from the Sunstone Project who donated 400 books to Mansfeld and Dodge Middle Schools in the Tucson Unified School District!

This is the ultimate revolutionary, Ana Doan of Nogales, AZ. Anna, along with the Santa Cruz County Superintendent of Schools, invited Books Save Lives to provide workshops for any and all adults who work with children. In the year we've been with Anna, we have served over 200 adults and consequently, over 9000 children in order to start their own literacy journeys. She is the epitome of what it means to be an revolutionary, and we are eternally grateful for her.

This is Alisa Carter and we met back in 2019 when she'd just started teaching. We started to talk and soon after she was igniting literacy journeys in her classroom as well. Now she works in the Sahuarita School District and implements student-centered/revolutionary teaching whenever she can. Soon she'll be in Korea doing the same!

This is Nicole Russell, the OG of the literacy revolution! Back in the day at Utterback Middle School working together to create book lists that would get children back into reading. We bonded for all of eternity over Tyrell by Coe Booth...THE #1 LIFE CHANGING BOOK OF ALL TIME! She put it on my shelf and it has never left. I owe Nicole the biggest debt of gratitude for helping me find the right books for kids when I didn't know where to look.

This is Jennifer Kidd who is working toward her PhD in the VISCERAL Method and the benefits of using our method in the classroom setting. After 10 minutes of learning what choice/independent reading can do for a child, Jennifer was ALLLLL IN and she has not looked back. She IS the revolutionary who will prove our method for all the schools to see how compassionate and 'socially just' literacy is best for everyone.

Manny Gonzalez is a GEAR Up Coach in Santa Cruz County. After 5 seconds in a Books Save Lives training Manny was all in on changing lives with books. His own life was changed by reading Ready Player One and now he spends his days changing the lives of the young adults around him by coaching, mentoring and sharing books. Manny is the epitome of a Revolutionary!
